Post 13

I have been working really hard on fixing some of the images I brought to the last crit and also putting some strong new ones together! I am pretty happy with how they are turning out. I am trying to make the images a bit more vague without losing the entire meaning of the project. I am going to start putting together the next proposal that is due, I have more of an idea of what the proposal should entail and a stronger idea of what my project is about. I am also in the process of writing an artist statement since I have had a solid idea of what that has been from the beginning of this project. I am excited to get it out on paper so that others can fully understand my meaning for this project.

I am working on the editing process; I have tried some new coloring for the sepia that I am applying to the images. I have tried to get rid of the slightly pink color that was happening with some of my previous images.

I went out this Saturday and Sunday and shot a bunch of new images around Yakima, Selah and Ellensburg. I feel like I have a nice array of images to put together a really strong portfolio. I may need to go out shooting some more, but as of now I am kind of happy with what I have. I know I won't have the time or money to make it back to Seattle before the quarter is over. But I really like what I have managed to do with MY time constraints and more importantly my money constraints. I am very broke and cannot afford another trip to Seattle.

Here are some examples of the some of the images I took this weekend:

I have been working on putting some completed images together and see what works best. I feel like I got some pretty cool ones that show my projects prerogative. I am learning news ways to make some images work. I am still struggling a little bit and think that some of the images could use some more work (possibly just different choice of nature image or city image). I am having fun with this project, and I'm hoping that I am getting some strong images that put my idea across. I am working really hard on this project and still feel scared that it isn't going to be as strong as I want it to be, but I am working my hardest to make that happen.

Here as some (possible) images for Nature vs. Man:

I think these three are some of the strongest ones that I put together. I really like how they turned out. I am bringing them to crit tomorrow and I am hoping to get positive feedback as well as some advice on how to make them stronger.

I went out and shot some images around Ellensburg this week and I feel like it went pretty well. I got some pretty cool images that show some of the things we've ruined nature with. I do still have some locations I want to go shoot at in Ellensburg (the abandoned train station I love so much) and a couple parks for the nature side of the project. I will go do that wednesday afternoon. Then, this weekend, I intend to go to Yakima to shoot some more city like shots (I know some areas that can make Yak-town look like a larger city than it is) and there are some gross areas that I might try to shoot too (though, I might chicken out, I don't want to get shot). I am also going to Selah this weekend to shoot some stuff out by my parent's house. There is this huge area where people go hunting and stuff, very desert like, so I was gonna go shoot out there. I may also go to the arboretum even though I feel like its kind of cheating since it's man made. No one has to know, hehe.

Today's crit really helped me figure some aspects of my project out or at least reassure some aspects. I am going to go shooting around Ellensburg tomorrow afternoon hopefully. I plan to go downtown and shoot in some alley ways, I want to go shoot by Soup Bowl where they are building new apartments and BEHIND the Soup Bowl where there is this really great set of metal stairs that look rusted and not very visually pleasing in most situations. I am also going to shoot around the abandoned train track buildings that I have shot in past projects.

I am going to Renton this weekend and I hope I can stop by a bigger city to shoot some other sorts of city life as well. I am looking forward to getting some amazing shots.

I am really looking forward to getting some town/city shots to actually start matching pictures, editing, and seeing how they turn out. I am really hoping I get some really strong images, though I am starting to get a bit worried, even though crit went well and everyone seemed excited for the outcome, I guess I am just getting nervous because I have been planning this for awhile and I really want it to work out well. I don't want to put together a weak portfolio.

I will post some town pictures tomorrow and maybe even some finished products???

I went out to get some nature shots this weekend, and I feel that it was a successful trip. I went and shot out in the canyon and that is where I got most of my shots for this time around. I would like to go to more wooded areas to broaden the spectrum of nature in this project. I think the shots of the canyon that I got are lovely and will go nicely in this project.

Below are some examples of the shots I took over this weekend:

I am working on figuring out when I can get my city/town shots. I am going to try to take pictures around Ellensburg this week and then Yakima and possibly Seattle this weekend. I am trying to figure out a shooting schedule that works with all of my other classes and my job. I want to get shots of full parking lots, falling apart buildings, cityscapes, and ugly things that we have built. I am moving along quite nicely on my portfolio and hopefully after this week I will have a majority of my shots and will then be able to work on putting them all together and completing the portfolio in time to prepare my matt boards and such.

Here are two more examples that I put together. Playing with some different placements, settings, blendings, stuff like that. I think next I might play with black and white nature shot with a colored city scape.

Below are some images that I have been playing around with. These were all previously edited images from awhile ago. I have been learning some more techniques and such in my computer art class and I am excited to put them to use. I think the next set of images will look a bit better, however, I think this gives a good idea of what the images will look like. I think the images will also look better because I will be shooting them specifically for this project as opposed to just shooting some awesome scenes.

I am hoping these images show that man made-things are making nature disappear and wither away. I am going to continue working on some images to see if I can perfect this double exposure thing. I am also trying to overlay the images with a solid color and then screening that to possibly make the images a bit more dream like? But I am not sure how this will work out. I am going to test it out and possibly post the results.

This image is an example of a person with a double exposure, I was thinking of maybe doing a few of these to liven up the portfolio. But, I am not sure if I will be able to find enough models in this short amount of time.

I went out today to get a location's list together and I was very pleased with all of the nature locations I found. I am going to be getting a lot of my nature shots from the canyon that goes from Ellensburg to Selah, and then I also have some locations that I found in Ellensburg, I can't tell if it was private property or not, I am hoping I will be able to get some shots regardless.

I still need to find some more specific locations for the city and town shots, though I know some great ones here in Ellensburg and some in Yakima as well. I would love to go to Seattle for some of the shots too, so I might try to make a weekend trip of it.

For my next blog post, I am going to post some test photos of the double exposures I plan to do. However, I haven't had a chance to actually shoot much, so I am going to practice with some photos I already have, just to get an idea of what sort of timeline I need for my working schedule.
